Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah has highlighted the reason he has chosen to play international football for England and not Ghana.
He said this in a press conference ahead of England’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine on Saturday, September 9.
Nketiah addressed the media for the first time as an England international after receiving his first ever call up to the Lions at the senior level.
Nketiah is of Ghanaian descent through his parents and was eligible to play for the Black Stars but decided to represent the country of his birth due to what he described as a natural career progression.
“Once the (England) offer was on the table, it was really hard to turn down. It’s something which what I felt was obviously a natural progression for myself at this stage and I felt now is a good time to kind of make that step so obviously am really happy to be here and proud to be here. Hopefully I can help the team this weekend and go on and get some caps.”
24 year old Nketiah has two goals in five appearances for Arsenal in all competitions this season.
