Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has stated that his team’s performance could have been better than it was in a 2-1 win over Central African Republic (CAR).
The win sealed Ghana’s qualification to the 2023 AFCON that will be held in Cote D’Ivoire with the Black Stars topping Group E with 12 points.
Angola finished in second place with nine points after drawing goalless with Madagascar while CAR finished in third place with seven points. Angola joins Ghana as qualified nations from Group E.
Speaking at the post game conference after the win, Hughton pointed out what he expected from his team.
“We could have played better in the first half but sometimes you have to wait for the game to open up…I think we showed a good level today. In the end, we could have been more comfortable.”
Mohammed Kudus scored a free kick in the 43rd minute to cancel out Louis Mafouta’s 25th minute goal for CAR. Ernest Nuamah’s debut goal for the Black Stars in the 88th minute got Ghana the win and sealed the Black Stars qualification to a 10th consecutive AFCON.
