Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus scored his first goal for West Ham as they beat Serbian side, Backa Topola, 3-1 in the opening group A fixture of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night at the London Stadium.

The former Right To Dream forward played in part in West Ham’s equaliser in the 66th minute and got on the score sheet in the 70th minute and after the match, he stated that he needed to be in a good position and take advantage of what James Ward-Prowse was sending into the box from crosses.

He also spoke on his involvement in the first goal that was initially credited to him but was later deemed to be an own goal.

“James has a fantastic delivery and so, anytime we have a set piece, it is a chance for us to score. I took my responsibility, made the run and the ball went in.

For the first goal, I don’t even know if it was mine. I just know that it touched me a bit and when I turned, the ball was in the back of the net. I think I need to watch it again to see but I needed to be there at the back post. Whenever Said had the ball during the game and he cut in, I had to be at the back post.”

Kudus got his first start for his new team and he relished the chance to play before the home fans and give off a good display for them.

“The support has been incredible from the fans. Even when we were down, they kept motivating and supporting us. It means a lot to me and I will keep doing my best for the team like we all saw today because that is what I am here to do.”

Kudus and West Ham will return to Premier League action this weekend when they take on Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday at 1pm and there will be live updates from that encounter and all the other matches from Week 6 of the Premier League live on Citi 97.3 FM.

The sign and building of the Court of Arbitration (CAS) is seen ahead of the verdict in South African double Olympic champion Caster Semenya's appeal against International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) testosterone rules on May 1, 2019 in Lausanne. The world's sports court will give the verdict on Semenya's challenge against rules regulating testosterone in female athletes, a verdict expected to have a profound impact on the future of women's sport. Semenya is fighting against regulations imposed by the IAAF that compel "hyperandrogenic" athletes - those with "differences of sexual development" (DSD) - to lower their testosterone levels if they wish to compete as women.
