Medeama Sporting Club Board Chairman Dr. Tony Aubynn says his outfit plans to use its status as an underdog against Horoya AC to its advantage.

He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports as the Tarkwa based club prepares to play the Guinea side on Sunday, September 17 at the Cape Coast Stadium. The game is the first of two legs.

The tie is a second round CAF Champions League encounter and pits the debutant Medeama against the well-traveled Guinea side.

Despite the huge gulf in experience competing in Africa’s top tier competition, Dr. Aubynn isn’t perturbed by Medeama’s tag as the underdog.

“We take advantage of our underdog status and prepare to spring a surprise. This is our first foray into the Championship and so we are not very well known at that stage but I can tell you we are very determined.

Dr. Tony Aubynn

It’s the determination, it’s the focus, it’s the single purpose attitude towards getting to a certain level so I am very confident that in spite of the strengths, the experiences of Horoya, we will still overcome them.”

Medeama beat Nigeria’s Remo Stars on penalties in the first round after the two legged tie ended 1-1 on aggregate.
