Ghanaian basketball player Maxwell Okoampah has talked about the adjustment period he went through after moving from Ghana to Canada where he starred at the University of Saskatchewan.
Speaking to Citi Sports exclusively ahead of a basketball event dubbed the “Mode Basketball Camp” he is fronting, Okoampah spoke about the changes he experienced after the location change.
The Mode Basketball Camp takes place on October 7 and October 8 at the University of Ghana main basketball court from 8:00 17:00 to 20:00 GMT on each day.
“With Ghana, we deal with playing more unstructured basketball… the Canadian system they play more structured basketball so it actually took time for me to understand the game of basketball and just not playing it but actually trying to understand the game.
I had to put on some years to actually understand the game before the game became slow so that was the only difference between Ghana and Canada.”
“I actually watched some of the games (here in Ghana) and I actually think that some aspect of the game is taking out if and it will be difficult for the kids to transition from here to the structured basketball. That’s why I came here to teach them something about it so they have a fair understanding of what they are going to meet.”
