We weren’t a big goal threat against Mexico and that has to change against USA- Chris Hughton

Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton, has called for his side to become more of a goal threat against the United States of America (USA) than it was against Mexico.

He said this in the lead up to Ghana’s international friendly game against USA at 12:30 AM on Wednesday, October 18 in Nashville.

Ghana heads into the game on the back of suffering a 0-2 loss to Mexico with both goals coming in the second half. Like Ghana, the US lost 1-3 to Germany in a similar friendly game.

Speaking in a pre game conference, Hughton touched on key issues he observed in the loss to Mexico including the Black Stars failure to be a prominent goal threat and has called on his team to change this against the Americans.

“To have opportunities, it means you need to penetrate a team and generally there’s two ways to penetrate and that’s working through the thirds or runs behind. They are the two areas we certainly need to do better.”

“Against Mexico, I said even though (in) the first half, the performance was a decent performance, over the 90 minutes, we were not a big enough threat on their goal that’s what has to change.”
