World football governing body FIFA has announced Morocco, Spain and Portugal as hosts of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The 2030 World Cup is the second edition of the grand football tournament that will have 48 nations competing.

The 2026 edition that is set to be co-hosted by Canada, USA and Mexico is the first to have 48 nations compete marking a departure from the 32 nation competition format.

The announcement was made earlier today with FIFA also announcing that the first three games of the 2030 World Cup will be held in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay to mark the centenary celebration of the World Cup.

Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay will host a game each to commence the special competition format.

This development comes in the wake of Morocco winning the rights to host the 2025 CAF African Cup of Nations for the first time since 1988 that had Cameroon winning the title for the second time. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
