The Golden State Warriors opened the 2023-24 season with a 108-104 loss to the Phoenix Suns thanks to an abysmal shooting night.

The usually efficient Warriors struggled to find consistency on Tuesday, connecting on just 35.6 percent (36-of-101) of their field goals in the loss.

They shot 10-of-43 from beyond the arc, with starters Chris Paul and Andrew Wiggins combining for 0-of-9 on their three-pointers.

Golden State trailed by 15 points at halftime but used a 40-point third quarter to overcome the deficit. However, the Warriors ran out of steam down the stretch, scoring just 18 points in the fourth quarter.

Star point guard Stephen Curry led Golden State with 27 points, but he shot 8-of-20 from the field and 4-of-14 from three-point range. Besides Kevon Looney, every Warriors starter shot less than 50 percent from the field.

The Warriors were missing their primary playmaker in Draymond Green, who sat out while nursing an ankle injury. They were also trying to integrate a new addition in Paul, who was acquired this offseason.

However, it’s still somewhat concerning to see the Warriors display such a lack of efficiency. Consistent shooting has been the foundation for Golden State’s success and helped the franchise win four championships.

The Warriors will look for a better showing when they return to action on Friday against the Sacramento Kings.
