Ryan Bertrand, a name etched in the annals of English football and celebrated as a UEFA Champions League winner, arrived in Ghana on Wednesday, October 18,  bearing a vision, a promise, and a beacon of hope for the country’s aspiring football stars.

Invited by the Ghanaian-owned Koppan Sports Agency, Bertrand’s visit is more than a fleeting star appearance. Rather, it’s an ambitious initiative aimed at nurturing Ghana’s football industry, fostering young talents, and imbuing them with the wisdom earned from a career at football’s pinnacle.

The visit is a testament to Bertrand’s commitment to using his success as a tool for positive change, a journey that will see him interact with the young players and make charitable donations within the communities that have nurtured these talents.

Bertrand was treated to a rousing reception with some adowa dance at the Kotoka International Airport, much to his excitement of witnessing it and joined the dance.

Speaking upon his arrival at the Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, the former Chelsea, Southampton & Leicester City left-back expressed joy at touching down in the country for the very first time.

I feel really good, really amazing to finally come here [Ghana]. It is my first time touching down in the country.

At my free time now, it is good to come here. I think the world can see, that Ghana has some great talents.

We are here to see the youth in Ghana, engage with charity with my partners[Koppan Sports Agency], feel good and spread good vibes.

It is important to inspire the youth with what we have achieved in the past.

I am very interested in establishing sports with a purpose here in Ghana, so it’s gonna be interesting in the next few days

Koppan Sports Agency has in the last 10 years specialized in identifying, marketing, and representing football players on a global scale. Their dedicated scouts traverse the length and breadth of the country in search of emerging talents, nurturing them into national and global stars.

Notable players represented by Koppan Sports include Michael Enu (Bibiani Gold Stars), Matthew Ofori Dunga (formerly of Accra Great Olympics), and Fatawu Ganiwu (Sporting Avranches: Ghana U17).

This momentous visit by Ryan Bertrand represents a significant step forward in fortifying Ghana’s football infrastructure.
