Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club goalkeeper Richmond Ayi’s play has come under a lot of scrutiny this season following a string of poor showings for The Phobians.
However, the 26 year old pulled off a fine save to deny Evans Adomako a potential game winner in the 84th minute at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale.
Richmond Ayi fluffed his attempt to save a corner kick that directly led to Real Tamale United’s late goal in a 1-0 loss for Hearts in the season opener when Martin Koopman’s visited Tamale for the first time this season.
Speaking in a post game interview, Karela United head coach, Ibrahim Shaibu Tanko, was upset his side missed out on a golden opportunity to pick two extra points due to Ayi’s save.
“Everything worked on well except that we did not take our chances imagine we getting a penalty with eight minutes to go and the player wastes it so what else can I do again.”

Emmanuel Boakye scored in the sixth minute for Karela but in-form forward Hamza Issah got the equalizer in the 40th minute with a header off a Salifu Ibrahim corner kick.

The draw comes on the back of Hearts of Oak’s 3-0 win over defending BetPawa Premier League champions Medeama SC in the previous round.
