Black Stars defender Tariq Lamptey is set to be out of action for an extended period after picking up an injury in Brighton and Hove Albion’s 3-2 win over Notthingham Forest in the English Premier League.
Lamptey and Spanish forward Ansu Fati exited the game with injuries in the win with Fati leaving the game in the 21st minute and Lamptey coming off in the 34th minute.
His presence in the match was his first in over a month after dealing with a prior injury and the injuries to Fati and Lamptey were addressed by Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi ahead of The Seagulls’ Europa League match against AEK Athens in Greece.
“Ansu and Lamptey are both injured. We have lost them for a long time I think… We will have to compete. I don’t know if we will win but we will fight to win the game for sure.”
Tariq Lamptey hasn’t played for Ghana’s Black Stars since competing at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and his latest injury is likely to keep him out of contention for a spot in the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.
