Jeffrey Schlupp did an excellent job for us- Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson

Ghana midfielder Jeffrey Schlupp has been praised for his efforts in Crystal Palace’s inspiring performance in a 2-2 draw with Manchester City in the English Premier League.

Palace manager Roy Hodgson was impressed by the Ghanaian’s performance in aiding the London side recover from 0-2 deficit and end the game 2-2 at the Etihad Stadium.

Schlupp assisted Jean- Philippe Mateta’s goal that made the score Palace 1-2 Man City with the former Leicester City player running on to meet Marc Guehi’s long pass from the back before crossing for Mateta to tap into the net.

The goal, scored in the 76th minute proved pivotal in the comeback and Schlupp and Dutch midfielder Jairo Reidewald were singled out by the Hodgson for their impact on the young squad’s performance against the defending champions.

“There were people playing in that game with no real Premier League experience at all, a bench of Academy players, no real seniors to put on to help us out apart from the XI who started the game. The ones that came on in the end, in particular Franca (Matheus)… he had a very good cameo.“

“Before that, we were reliant on [Jeff] Schlupp and Jaïro Riedewald, who did an excellent job for us.”

Despite producing fine performances for Palace, Schlupp isn’t expected to be named in the Black Stars squad for the 2023 AFCON unlike fellow Black Stars player and Palace teammate Jordan Ayew. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
