2023 IBSA Goalball African Championships commences in Cairo, Egypt

The IBSA Goalball African Championship 2023 started in Cairo Egypt on Sunday, December 10 with 4 countries (Egypt, Ghana, Algeria, Coté D’Ivoire) confirming their participation.

The opening ceremony of the IBSA Goalball African Championships 2023 was held at the Dr Hassan Mostafa sports Halls formerly known as the 6th of October city arena at 5:30 pm Egypt time.

 

The ceremony was witnessed by important dignitaries from the International Blind Sports community including the President of the Egyptian Blind Sports Association and a Board member of the Africa Paralympic Committee, Dr. Ahmed Ewen, Aurora Zanolin.

Chairperson of the IBSA Goalball Sub-committee, John Potts Secretary of the IBSA Goalball Sub-committee, and the Sports Minister of Egypt, Ashraf Sobhy, joined via Zoom to give his remarks.

The matchday one saw Egypt, the host country beating Coté D’ivoire who represented only their men’s team by 11-1.

Matchday 2 continues on Monday, December 11 2023, with Ghana’s male and female teams playing in games 3 and 4 respectively.
