Charles Kwablan Herrmann, son of former Black Stars captain Charles Akonnor, has won his latest piece of silverware at the juvenile level for Germany.

The 17 year old (turns 18 on January 21, 2024) is part of the German side that beat France 4-3 on penalties to win the 2023 FIFA World Under 17 World Cup in Indonesia.

The game ended 2-2 after extra time and Germany emerged victorious in the penalty shootout to clinch a second major title after winning this year’s European championship in June.

Germany beat France in that final on penalties to clinch that trophy and Herrmann, who is on the books of Borussia Dortmund, was part of the team. He provided four assists and scored a goal in six games.

At the World Cup, the left wing forward played in four of Germany’s six game run to the title; he scored a goal and had three assists in the competition but didn’t feature in the semifinal and final games.

He was named Man of the Match in Germany’s 3-1 win over Mexico at the group stage of the competition after bagging two assists.

Despite representing Germany at the juvenile stage, Herrmann is eligible to play for Ghana at the senior level.

Herrmann’s father, Akonnor starred for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga and captained Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team during this period.
