Black Stars draw goalless with Namibia in pre-2023 AFCON friendly

Ghana played out a goalless draw against lowly ranked Namibia (white) in a pre 2023 AFCON friendly game

At the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, the Black Stars drew goalless with Namibia to round up its 2023 AFCON camp in Ghana. West Ham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus missed the game as he continues to recover from a slight injury. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

The game replaced Ghana’s scheduled international friendly game against Botswana but the change in opposition didn’t result in a much needed win for the Black Stars coming off a string of uninspired performances and results.

The Chris Hughton led team again struggled to get going offensively and drew a chorus of boos from fans at the stadium as they sounded their frustration over the team’s play.

Ghana heavily rotated its squad in the second half with the likes of Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Majeed Ashimeru, Andre Dede Ayew replacing starters Richard Ofori, Elisha Owusu and Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer.

Fan favourite, Richmond Lamptey of Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC, wasn’t involved in the contest and it was the same outcome for Medeama SC left full back Fatawu Hamid.

Medeama striker Jonathan Sowah was the only member of the three man Ghana Premier League contingent to feature in the game after replacing Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams.

Ghana is in Group B at the AFCON group stage with Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique. In related news, Egypt beat Tanzania 2-0 while Mozambique beat Lesotho 2-0 in similar friendly games. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
