1978 AFCON winner and Ghana football legend Mohammed Polo says creative players like Mohammed Kudus must be allowed to express themselves on the pitch.

He said this in response to the creativity struggles on the part of the Black Stars ahead of the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports.

Nicknamed The Dribbling Magician, Polo pointed to some level of restrictions as reason for the lack of creativity in the team particularly in the case of West Ham United midfielder Kudus who has made a brilliant start to life in the English Premier League.

“When you have quality players, you have to give them the leeway to hold the team…you often hear people say Kudus holds on to the ball too long but that’s wrong.”

“There are some qualities you need in the team and those qualities must be free to play, to express themselves. They can take on defenders and make things happen.”

Due to a slight injury, Kudus has missed out on the Black Stars training camp in Kumasi for the 2023 AFCON and the 23 year old will miss Ghana’s friendly game against Namibia tonight at 20:00 GMT.
