Ghana Athletics President, Bawa Fuseini, says competitions in senior high schools form the bedrock of athletics in Ghana.
He said this in his speech delivered at the launch of the National Invitational Students Athletics Championship (NISAC) at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The launch comes after Ghana Athletics signed a memorandum of understanding with CITI TV to promote the event the runs from February 24 to February 28 in Accra.
Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif, LOC Chairman of the 13th African Games, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, CEO of Ghana Athletics, Philipina Frimpong, CITI TV Head of Sports Benjamin Nketsia and CITI TV Business Development Manager Omane Mensah-Bonsu were present at the launch.
In his speech, Fuseini spoke about the importance of school sports in building up athletes for the next level.
“We signed a memorandum of understanding with CITI TV for the next four years and this is a very important milestone in the development of athletics especially in regards to school sports. School sports is the bedrock on which athletics is built upon.”
Athletes from over 40 schools are expected to compete in the Championship next month.
