I want to break records in “winning” games at 2023 AFCON- Andre Ayew

Andre Ayew celebrates after scoring equalizer against Portugal

Captain of the Black Stars, Andre Dede Ayew, is adamant he wants to break records at the 2023 AFCON in “winning situations”.

He said this when he met the media ahead of Ghana’s opening game at the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire on Sunday, January 13 at 20:00 GMT.

Ayew is on the verge of joining Cameroon legend Rigobert Song and Egypt legend Hassan Ahmed as the only players to play at eight AFCON tournaments.

The Le Havre forward is also on the verge of scoring in the AFCON for the seventh time to beat the likes of fellow Ghana forward Asamoah Gyan, Samuel Eto’o and Zambia’s Kalusha Bwalya.

However, Dede Ayew revealed in his address that he isn’t focused on individual achievements at the expense of achieving the team’s goals. He added that his biggest dream is to win the AFCON. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

“I worked really hard to get into this situation and in this position but most importantly it’s the team. It’s what we are going to do to win games and if I’m able to break these with winning games so be it and that would be wonderful and that’s what I’m hoping for.”

Ghana is aiming to win a fifth AFCON title after last winning it in 1982.
