Conceding in the 17th minute rocked us- Chris Hughton

Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has admitted that conceding early rocked his side in its opening game of the 2023 AFCON.

He said this in the post game presser after Ghana lost 1-2 to Cape Verde in Abidjan with the stars conceding a 17th minute goal from Jamiro Monteiro. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Cape Verde worked the ball down Ghana’s left side and forced Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori into a smart save but Monteiro scored from the rebound.

Ghana got the equalizer in the 56th minute through Alexander Djiku but a series of errors at the back led to Garry Rodrigues 92nd minute goal to give Cape Verde the win.

Speaking about his disappointment with the result, Hughton added that conceding early threw his side off a bit in the contest.

“I think it rocked us the goal that we conceded but I thought that we got back into the game and at that stage it looked like we could go on and win it. We are hugely hugely disappointed with the result.”
