Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori is disappointed the Black Stars conceded a very late goal to lose in its opening game at the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.

He said this after Ghana lost 1-2 to Cape Verde in a Group B matchup that had the Black Stars concede early and late goals to the Blue Sharks.

Cape Verde scored in the 17th minute through Jamiro Monteiro and in the 92nd minute through Garry Rodrigues to take a surprise win over the four time AFCON winners.

Addressing the media, Ofori explained the circumstances surrounding Cape Verde’s first goal and touched on the West African island nation’s second. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

“The truth of the matter is, we can’t concede in such a time. We have to be compact. We have players that play highest level football…but sometimes players can’t defend some certain balls and you end up losing the game.”
