Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton, has pointed to Osman Bukari’s emotional state after making a mistake that led to a goal as the reason Bukari got subbed off after subbing in as a replacement for Inaki Williams.

He said this in a post game press conference after Ghana drew 2-2 with Egypt in a crucial Group B matchup at the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.

Ghana took the lead twice through Mohammed Kudus deep in the first half and in the 71st minute but lost both leads through defensive errors. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Red Star Belgrade winger Bukari played a big role in Egypt’s second goal that was scored by Mohammed Moustapha in the 74th minute.

Bukari was replaced by Joseph Paintsil in the 89th minute after replacing Inaki (whose back pass led to Egypt’s first goal) in the 73rd minute.

Speaking on the Bukari substitution, Hughton stated, “After the mistake, sometimes your emotions can get hold of you and we felt that the mistake, because it is an emotional game, we felt the mistake, it affected him a little bit so we decided to make the change.”

“This is nothing personal against anybody. We like him a lot and this doesn’t go against anything that we think of him.”
