Three local-based players have been named in Chris Hughton’s official 27-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted in Ivory Coast.
Richmond Lamptey of Asante Kotoko joins the Medeama duo, Jonathan Sowah and Fatawu Hamidu as the only local-based players in the team.
The 26-year-old who plays for Kumasi Asante Kotoko has four assists in 11 games and has been instrumental for the Porucpines after a shaky start to the 2023/2024 Ghana Premier League season.
Medeama duo, Jonathan Sowah and Fatawu Hamidu have been regulars in Chris Hughton’s team since he officially took charge of the Black Stars of Ghana.
Fatawu Hamidu has been a regular for Medeama, playing eight league games, four CAF Champions League matches and recording four assists in total.
Jonathan Sowah on the other hand has been superb with Medeama in 2023, recording 16 goals in the calendar year.
He also has seven goals in 15 games so far this season for the Mauve and Yellow lads in all competitions.
Ghana will play Namibia in an international friendly at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Monday, January 8, 2024, as part of the tournament build-up in Cote D’Ivoire.
