Ghana eliminated from 2023 AFCON; Inaki Williams to fly privately to Spain tonight

Following Cameroon’s qualification to the round of 16 stage at the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana has been officially eliminated from the competition.

Cameroon’s inspired 3-2 win over The Gambia in the final round of games in Group C with Senegal’s 2-0 win over Guinea ensures the Indomitable Lions progress automatically after finishing second in the group behind Senegal.

Following the confirmation of Ghana’s exit from the competition, Ghana’s Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams is set to fly out tonight to Spain.

He is line to play in Bilbao’s Copa Del Rey tie against FC Barcelona in the quarterfinal stage on Wednesday, January 24 at 20:30 GMT. This is according to Nico Rodriguez of Spanish media outlet El Chiringuito TV.

His poorly timed back pass led to Egypt’s Omar Marmosuh scoring and equalizer for Egypt in a contest that ended in a 2-2 draw between the Black Stars and the Pharaohs.

Without Williams, Athletic Bilbao registered three wins in four games in all competitions.
