On his return to AS Monaco after a string of underwhelming performances at the 2023 AFCON, Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu delivered a starring performance in Monaco’s combative 2-2 draw with Olympique de Marseille at the Stade Velodrome.

The Ligue 1 matchup had Monaco reduced to nine men after Guillermo Maripan and Denis Zakaria were sent off in the 11th and 86th minute respectively.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, goals from Wissam Ben Yedder and Magnes Akliouche were enough to secure the draw and fourth place for Monaco in the league standings at the time of writing.

In his first game after his run in the 2023 AFCON with the Black Stars, Salisu played out the entire duration of the game registering four clearances, two blocked shots, three interceptions and a tackle.

One of his two blocked shots was on Marseille midfielder Vitinha in the 69th minute with the other coming in the 92nd minute to take the ball off Pierre Americk Aubameyang.

Monaco take on Le Havre next in the league on Sunday February 4, with Salisu in line to play against Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew who plays for Le Havre.

Salisu recently issued an apology for the Black Stars woeful performance at the AFCON where Ghana failed to win a game in three outings at the group stage and failed to qualify to the round of 16 stage.
