Majority Leader in Ghana’s parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu, says Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew no longer fits in the Black Stars.
He said this in the aftermath of Ghana’s elimination from the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire after the Black Stars failed to win any of three Group B outings at the tournament.
The Black Stars lost 1-2 to Cape Verde and drew 2-2 with Mozambique and Egypt respectively to end the competition with just two points.
The exit marks Ghana’s early elimination from the AFCON for the second edition in a row after picking up just a point in the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
Chris Hughton was sacked as Black Stars head coach after the team’s elimination was confirmed on Tuesday, January 23, 2023.
Speaking on the latest abysmal performance by the Black Stars, the long tenured Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency voiced his disagreement over the dismissal of Hughton and criticized Andre Ayew’s play saying,
“The constant peeling off of coaches is not going to help us. The players on the field, for us watching, didn’t we not see that some were deficient?”
“Dede he’s played his part. If we have to be truthful to ourselves, he no longer fits into the team. Why can’t we say it?. To me, he’s been a fantastic player like his father was but now he is a spent force” he said to Angel FM-Kumasi.
Dede Ayew matched Cameroon’s Rigobert Song as the player with the most appearances (36) in the history of the AFCON after featuring in Ghana’s draw with Mozambique. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
