I’m not sure about Ghana winning the 2023 AFCON- Ken Bediako

Veteran sports journalist Ken Bediako isn’t sure about Ghana’s chances of winning the 2023 AFCON title.

He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports ahead of the start of the competition that runs from January 13 to February 11 in Cote D’Ivoire.

Ghana last won the continental title in 1982 and the Black Stars chances of winning a fifth title aren’t high for Bediako who reported on the Black Stars for decades including the title winning campaigns in 1978 and 1982.

The long tenured journalist’s statement mirrored those shared by 1978 AFCON winner Mohammed Polo who said the Black Stars aren’t showing signs of a title winning team. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

“We’ve already had this Comoros experience so I think the coach (Chris Hughton) should by now know what to do…realize his mistakes and put up a good team but to win the cup, I’m not too sure about that.”

Ghana lost 2-3 to Comoros and crashed out of the 2021 AFCON at the group stage underlining the country’s worst ever campaign at the AFCON after ending the campaign without a win.

The Black Stars are in Group B with Cape Verde, Mozambique and Egypt; Ghana plays Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14 at 20:00 GMT.
