On the back of launching the Pathways Foundation that aims to help individuals who don’t make the grade at the professional level, Dutch defender Jeremie Frimpong has been named in the Bundesliga Team of the Week.

Frimpong was part of three Bayer Leverkusen players named in the Team of the Week following the conclusion of games on the Bundesliga’s return from a winter break.

Teammates Alex Grimaldo and Exequiel Palacios were named in the Team of the Week after starring in Leverkusen’s 1-0 win over Augsburg.

Bayern Munich’s trio of Harry Kane, Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala matched Leverkusen’s call-ups to the elite team.

The win keeps Leverkusen atop the Bundesliga standings with 45 points, four points ahead of second ranked Bayern Munich. Leverkusen is scheduled to play RB Leipzig next on Saturday, January 20 at 17:30 GMT.

Frimpong, who is of Ghanaian descent and recently turned 23 on December 10, 2023, has five goals and seven assists in 17 Bundesliga games in what has been a standout 2023-2024 campaign.

Off the field, Frimpong is scoring big points by launching the Pathways Project which is an initiative for aspiring footballers aged 15-22, with a focus on professional academy players transition to careers outside football in Ghana, the UK, Netherlands, and Germany.
