Black Stars midfielder Majeed Ashimeru’s availability for Ghana’s crucial tie against Mozambique is up in the air and clarity on his situation will come through mere hours before the game kicks off.

The tie kicks off at 20:00 GMT on Monday, January 22 with Ghana needing a win to qualify to the round of 16 stage after drawing 2-2 with Egypt and losing 1-2 to Cape Verde.

However, the fitness of Ashimeru’s is under intense scrutiny after the RSC Anderlecht player subbed off early in the second half of the contest against Egypt and was spotted hobbling in the mixed zone.

Addressing the media after the Egypt tie, Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton stated that replacing Ashimeru was a change the technical team “had to make”. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Two games into his 2023 AFCON run, Ashimeru has been one of Ghana’s best performers in what has been a frustrating campaign for the Black Stars.

The four time African champs have conceded goals off defensive errors and need a big win over Mozambique to progress in the competition.
