Nigerian striker Sadiq Umar has been captured in a video training with Spanish league side Real Sociedad days after he was ruled out of the 2023 AFCON.
The 26 year old picked up a knee injury in Nigeria’s friendly game against Guinea ahead of the AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.
The 6 foot 4 inch forward’s injury was considered serious to warrant a replacement with Trabzonspor striker Paul Onuachu (on loan from Southampton) taking up Umar’s spot.
However, a video of a Sociedad’s training session ahead of the team’s league clash against Osasuna on Wednesday, January 17 at 20:00 GMT surfaced online with Umar actively participating in the drills.
Umar has two goals and an assist for Sociedad in 17 league games this season.
At the AFCON, Nigeria opened its campaign with an average performance in a 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea.
This development comes in the wake of Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana’s decision to report to the team’s base in Cote D’Ivoire just a day before Cameroon’s 1-1 draw with Guinea.
Onana had the chance to report to camp earlier but decided to stick with Manchester United and play in the Red Devils league game against Tottenham Hotspurs that ended in a 2-2 draw.
