The 2023 AFCON group stage has ended with several shock results and brilliant goals dominating the games in Cote D’Ivoire.

Minnows Mauritania, Cape Verde and Namibia’s qualification to the round of 16 stage has been well celebrated just as much as the fall of heavyweights like Ghana and Algeria in the first round has been heavily panned.

However, a fleet of exciting pairings have come up in the first phase of the knockout stage that is set to be played out this weekend.

A major theme that runs through the eight games is regional derbies headlined by the Nigeria-Cameroon matchup.

The countries share a border just as Namibia and Angola who are scheduled to face off on Saturday, January 27 at 17:00 GMT. Nigeria’s game against Cameroon kicks off at 20:00 GMT.

Neighbours Mali and Burkina Faso will renew their regional rivalry on Tuesday, January 30 at 17:00 GMT.
