In an atmosphere of achievement and unwavering resolve, the Spintex Knights (The Nobles), triumphant in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Division 1, have announced a shift in their focus to a more significant stage—the esteemed Basketball African League (BAL).
During a press briefing at the Jobyco Hotel in Spintex, Accra, key figures of the Knights passionately articulated their aspirations to represent Ghana on the continental basketball platform.
Co-founder Dr. Eric Opoku Antwi, radiating confidence, illuminated the team’s transformative journey. “Our progression from Division 2 obscurity to securing the ABL Division 1 title has been remarkable. Nevertheless, our ultimate goal has always been to pave the way as the first Ghanaian representatives in the Basketball African League.”
Coach Selorm Thomas, buoyed by the team’s success, emphasized the impending challenge. “As a brand or a team, we take every success very seriously. We want everyone to understand that Spintex Knights is here to stay. And with the regulations set by the Ghana Basketball Association, we believe we are prepared to represent Ghana at the Basketball African League.”
The Nobles’ pursuit of the BAL berth was sparked by their decisive victory over defending champions Braves of the Ghana Revenue Authority. A resounding 74-40 triumph in the series solidified their position as the Greater Accra Basketball League Men’s Division 1 champions, maintaining an impeccable record of 22 unbeaten games throughout the season.
Captain Elvis Pobi Asiaw, while acknowledging the team’s success, underscored their collective determination.
The Knights’ dedication to representing Ghana in the BAL showcases not only their ambition but also their readiness to face the challenges of competing at an international level.
The team is presently gearing up for their preseason games and is poised to make history in the upcoming season.
