Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has opened up on the state of his team’s locker room after failing to register a win two games into its 2023 AFCON campaign.
Speaking at a press conference after seeing his lead twice but give up the lead both times to draw 2-2 with Egypt in the Group B game.
The Pharaohs got both goals in the very competitive game by capitalizing on defensive errors from the Black Stars in the 69th and 74th minutes respectively.
Ghana winger Osman Bukari was substituted for Joseph Paintsil in the 89th minute after replacing Inaki Williams earlier in the game due to his emotional state after committing the mistake that led to Egypt’s second goal. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
The Black Stars conceded a late goal in a 1-2 loss to Cape Verde in its opening tie and repeated the defensive errors twice against Egypt and that has led to a lot of frustration Chris Hughton said.
“It is true that at the moment there is a lot of frustration in the locker room. Our team deserved more, but football is like that. It’s frustrating. Two errors cost us the match.”
Ghana plays Mozambique next on Monday, January 22 at 20:00 GMT.
