Ghana Supporters Union General Secretary Kassim Awal addresses media in Abidjan.

General Secretary of the Ghana Supporters Union, Kassim Awal, has refuted allegations that members of the Union are stranded in Cote D’Ivoire.

He said this at a presser organized by the group to quash reports of dissatisfaction of fans towards the government for not fulfilling promises made to them before moving to Cote D’Ivoire to support Ghana’s Black Stars in the Stars campaign at the 2023 AFCON.

Reports indicated that supporters were struggling to gain access to food, water and proper accommodation in Abidjan and were ready to return to Ghana. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Further reports indicated that government officials have responded to these allegations by handing each individual $400 to prevent the situation from escalating further.

“We want to state it categorically that this allegation is not true. Before we embarked on this trip, we were made to know that before our first match, everything that we are due will be given-to us-and just before our first match, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the accountant and their delegation came here and ensured that each and everyone received his or her stipends.”

“So the allegation that we are stranded is not true, (that) we are not taken care of is also not true. Everything that we needed here has been taken care of.”
