Disappointed with AFCON exit but focus is on AS Monaco now- Mohammed Salisu

Mohammed Salisu reacts to Ghana's exit from the 2023 AFCON preliminary stage

Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu has expressed utter disappointment over the early exit from the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.

He said this in a pre game interview with AS Monaco’s official media channel ahead of Monaco’s French Ligue 1 tie against Le Havre on Sunday, January 4.

Salisu played in all three games for the Black Stars at the 2023 AFCON as Ghana crashed out of the tournament in the first round after failing to win any of three games.

Ghana lost 1-2 to Cape Verde and drew 2-2 with Egypt and Mozambique respectively to exit the AFCON at the first round for the second edition in a row.

Following the disappointment over Ghana’s exit, Salisu has switched his focus to excelling in his debut season with AS Monaco.

“I was obviously disappointed by the premature elimination in the Africa Cup of Nations. But now I am focused on AS Monaco because we have objectives and we want to achieve them.”

“When I returned, the coach asked me if I was fit to play, I said yes and that I was very motivated. I was determined to come back and play quickly.”
