SONA 2024: I believe Dede Ayew meant every word in his apology after AFCON exit- Prez Akufo-Addo

Black Stars captain Andre Ayew

President of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo has stated that he believes every word delivered in Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew’s apology to Ghanaians after the Black Stars early exit from the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.

President Akufo-Addo said this in his State of the Nation Address delivered in Ghana’s Parliament as he addressed the house.

Ghana exited the AFCON after failing to win a game against Egypt, Mozambique and Cape Verde and recorded just two points.

In the aftermath of the painful exit, Black Stars captain Dede Ayew apologized to Ghanaians for the poor performance and President Akufo-Addo says he believes every word the Le Havre midfielder stated in his apology.  (Click highlighted text to read full apology)

“The recent AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire was probably the nadir of the performance of the Black Stars, and has left the nation saddened”

“However, I am quite certain that the young men and technical handlers, would, themselves, have wanted to make our nation proud and I believe that the captain, Andre Dede Ayew, meant every word when he rendered heartfelt apologies on behalf of his team-mates to all Ghanaians for the team’s early exit.”
