Ghana’s national record holder in the Men’s 100 Metre event, Benjamin Azamati, is set for a grand homecoming as the University of Ghana has been officially named as a host venue for the 2023 African Games Athletics competition.
This comes in the wake of the renovated stadium being named as the host of eight sports disciplines in the upcoming Games. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
The 2023 African Games will be held in Accra from March 8 to March 23 with the UG Stadium picked as one of two main host locations; the newly built Borteman Sports Complex is the other.
Athletics is one of the eight events to be held at the University of Ghana Stadium and this is set to mark the return of Azamati to the edifice he gained fame in.
Prior to starring at West Texas A&M University, Azamati dominated the ranks at the University of Ghana and the 26 year old sprinter is expected to run at the edifice after confirming his participation in next month’s competition.
Aside Azamati, other top ranked Ghanaian athletes James Dadzie and Joseph Paul Amoah have confirmed that they will represent Ghana in the 13th African Games.
