He wants an autograph; I will sign one for him soon- Asamoah Gyan responds to South Dayi MP

Honourable Rockson-Nelson Kwami Etse Dafeamekpor

Football legend Asamoah Gyan has clapped back at Member of Parliament for South Dayi Constituency, Rockson-Nelson Kwami Etse Dafeamekpor, over his controversial statement.

The Member of Parliament said the former Black Stars captain intentionally missed his penalty kick in the quarterfinal game against Uruguay at the 2010 FIFA World Cup because of Gyan’s affiliation to the New Patriotic Party.

Gyan was named as a member of 2024 NPP Flag bearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s Manifesto Committee (Sports) in a move that sparked the Parliamentarian’s comments.

Beyond his remarks on Gyan’s loyalty, Honourable Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, stated that Gyan’s national figure status should make him non-partisan. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

In response on X (formerly Twitter), Africa’s highest goal scorer in the history of the FIFA World Cup, Gyan stated, “Maybe he wants an autograph. Don’t worry. I will sign one for him soon.”
