Ghana winger Joseph Paintsil is happy he scored his debut Major League Soccer (MLS) goal in the Cali Clasico against San Jose Earthquakes with the goal honouring a prediction made by his mother and sister.
Paintsil scored and provided an assist in Los Angeles Galaxy’s 3-1 win over San Jose in just his second game since joining the team from Belgian side KRC Genk last month.
The 26 year old won a penalty kick in his debut game for LA Galaxy; the Galaxy drew 1-1 with Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.
Speaking in the post game interview, Paintsil shared how happy he was with the goal and honouring his family’s prediction.
“For me, I’m really happy I scored my first goal. It really means a lot to me also because my sister and my mum told me I was going to score today so I should just keep the faith and it just happened so the moment it happened, I just thought about them.”
Paintsil joined Galaxy after playing at the 2023 AFCON for Ghana’s Black Stars.
