Wales football’s top official has confirmed Rob Page will continue as national team manager despite the failure to qualify for the Euro 2024 finals.

Football Association of Wales president Steve Williams has moved quickly to remove doubts over Page’s future.

It comes after the penalty shootout defeat to Poland in Tuesday night’s play-off final.

Page, 49, signed a deal in 2022 to take him through to the next World Cup.

Williams said: “The FAW can confirm Rob Page is their manager for the forthcoming campaign in accordance with his contract.

“Rob is the manager. His contract runs to the end of the World Cup and that is how we continue to work.”

There will, as is routine, still be a review of the latest camp and campaign. But there is no appetite within the association to remove Page now as they believe the squad is still a work in progress under him.

Following the loss to Poland, Page said he was “absolutely” the right man to continue leading Wales into the Nations League and 2026 World Cup.

There had been tensions between Page and FAW chief executive Noel Mooney during the campaign but the pair held talks to clear the air, understood to have been instigated by Williams.

The Welsh squad have also voiced their backing for the Rhondda-born boss.

Page, who led Wales to their first World Cup since 1958 when they qualified for the Qatar tournament in 2022, has been in charge since November 2020, initially as an interim boss, but stepping up from his role as assistant to Ryan Giggs, who was involved in legal proceedings.

Wales start their Nations League campaign against Turkey in September.
