CONFED CUP: Stade Malien underrated us because of our league position- Karim Zito

Dreams FC head coach Karim Zito

Dreams Football Club head coach Karim Zito believes Malian side Stade Malien underrated his side in the first of their two legged tie in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Karim Zito said this in a post game interview after seeing his side progress to the semifinals after recording a 1-1 draw at the Baba Yara Stadium.

In the first leg, Dreams delivered a shock 2-1 win in Bamako with veteran striker John Antwi scoring twice in the game.

After progressing to the semifinal to setup a matchup against Egyptian side Zamalek, Antwi underlined the quality the team possesses based on his experience competing in the Egyptian League. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

For Zito, grabbing the win away from home proved pivotal in the team’s qualification in what the veteran trainer believes was down to Malein underestimating Dreams quality based on the team’s league standing.

“I knew they will come in better (in the second leg) than the way we played against them (in the first leg). I think they underrated us when you look at our position in the Ghanaian League so before they realized, I had what I wanted (an away win) so I expected a serious opposition here…I told them (my players) at least we should close with a draw if we couldn’t win.”

“Seriously I am very excited, I am very happy for a young club like Dreams FC to qualify to the semifinals of CAF Confederation Cup is a bug plus” he added.
