CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has advocated for footballers to make as much money as possible during their playing careers.
He said this in the presence of FIFA President Gianni Infantino while speaking extensively on players spending their fortune well and making the right investments.
“Football is a short career, whilst you play, you have to make as much money as possible and I encourage them to take some of that money and invest it for the future when they don’t play football. When I was President of Mamelodi Sundowns I go to where the players train, I see Mercedes-Benz, I see BMW’s, very expensive, in fact even Ferrari.”
“It’s fine for them to buy these wonderful things as long as they take some of the money and invest it for the days they don’t play football.”
CAF is grappling with a fallout from USM Alger (Algeria) – RS Berkane (Morocco) row over Morocco’s stance on the disputed territory of Western Sahara known by some as Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
Alger’s failed to show up for the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semifinal clash.
