Ghana winger Joseph Paintsil says he is happy to be in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Most Valuable Player Award list but his focus is on helping Los Angeles Galaxy excel.

He said this in a post game interview after LA Galaxy beat Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 with Paintsil scoring and registering an assist in the win.

The win comes on the back of the Galaxy’s 2-1 loss to Los Angeles FC in the LA Derby or El Trafico; Paintsil was racially abused by an individual reported to be an LAFC fan in the aftermath of the loss. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

26 year old Paintsil has had a fine start to life in the MLS after moving from Belgian side KRC Genk with three goals and three assists in eight games.

He has been named in the early MVP list in the MLS but the Black Stars winger stated his focus is firmly on helping LA Galaxy.

“It’s something that every player would love to be there to achieve but we have a long season and my focus is really with the team. Whatever that happens with the MVP, goals and assists and everything, first is the team and the more the team succeeds, the more as an individual also succeeds. Me being there and finding my name there is a plus for me.”
