Ghana forward Inaki Williams is officially a Spanish Copa Del Rey (FA Cup) winner and was emotional after bagging the third title in his career as a professional footballer.
Williams was on the Athletic Bilbao side that beat Mallorca 4-2 on penalties to win the 2023-2024 Copa Del Rey title.
The teams played out a 1-1 draw after regulation time and extra time with Inaki Williams playing 91 minutes while his younger brother, Nico, lasted the entire duration of the close contest and assisted Oihan Sanchet’s goal for Bilbao.
After Alex Berenguer’s converted penalty attempt sealed the win for Bilbao, the brothers were captured hugging and shedding tears.
Winning this season’s Copa Del Rey marks Bilbao’s first title victory in 40 years for the club that celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2023.
In the lead up to the game, Inaki’s influence on brother guiding Nico Williams who he described as special, was captured in a BBC interview. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
