Former Black Stars player Mohammed Polo has described the current black stars coach, Otto Addo as a latter-day saint”, believing a coach could have been selected from a retired player list that won Ghana its 4 Afcon trophies.

The 1975 Ghana Football Association Footballer of the Year was part of the retired footballers honoured at an event organized by Footy Legends Gh at the Mantse Agbonaa Park in James Town.

In an exclusive interview with Citi Sports after the event, Polo, popularly called “the dribbling magician” indicated that he felt sad that players from the 1970s and 1980s had been sidelined.

I think the man himself who has been brought in is a latter-day saint.

I feel sad but it’s an opportunity. We saw what Kwesi Appiah did, but for some reason, they had to sideline him. ”

I’m saying today that he’s the best coach that we have had in recent times.

He’s still a coach but he’s outside coaching when we need a coach.

Now we are going to try somebody. We are giving Otto Addo a trial.

I’m not saying he’s not good but don’t we have people in the system to give them trials?

Certain things are happening in the system that are not helping us.”

Polo won the 1978 African Cup of Nations and was named in the team of the tournament. He also placed 4th in the France Football Magazine African Footballer rankings of the Year in 1977.
