Zeze’s injury was a big blow to us- Kotoko Coach on 2-1 loss to Berekum Chelsea

Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, believes an injury to Serge Zeze was problematic for his team and went on to describe the injury as a “big blow“.

He said this in his post game presser following Kotoko’s 2-1 loss to Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park in Berekum.

The loss ends Kotoko’s three game unbeaten run in a game that had two of the top goalscorers in the league, Steven Mukwala of Kotoko and Stephen Amankona of Chelsea, score in the first half. Mizack Afriyie scored in the 96th minute to give Chelsea the win with a fine header.

Despite praising the efforts of substitute Nicholas Mensah, Prosper Ogum touched on Zeze’s injury and the impact on the team’s play.

“I think Zeze’s injury was a big blow to us because he’s played in that position (central midfield) for sometime now. He’s gotten the experience, he’s gotten the exposure, but then because he had to go out, we had to do a forced tactical substitution which I think we were able to keep the tempo but I think somewhere along the line we couldn’t maintain it.”

Kotoko take on arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak next on Sunday, May 26 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
