Black Starlets lose to Nigeria; display support to departing Head Coach Laryea Kingston

Members of Ghana’s National Men’s Under 17 Football Team, the Black Starlets, showed their support to departing head coach Laryea Kingston.

They did so by pulling their jerseys to display written messages displaying their love for Kingston who will vacate his role in the aftermath of Ghana’s game against Nigeria after Herve Gbarfa’s flick gave Ghana a 2-1 lead in the 28th minute. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

This happened in Ghana’s bronze medal game against Nigeria at the ongoing WAFU Under 17 Football Championship at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.

Nigeria beat Ghana 3-2 to clinch bronze at the competition with both nations’ qualification to the AFCON hinging on FIFA’s upcoming ruling on the number of participating teams due to changes to the Under 17 World Cup competition format.

Ernest Ofori was captured pointing to captain Benjamin Tsivanyo, “We love You LK 7” message beneath his jersey while celebrating the goal.

Kingston, a former Black Stars player, announced his shock resignation as head coach just after Ghana lost 2-1 to Burkina Faso in the semifinals. Ghana hasn’t competed at the Under 17 World Cup since 2017.
