Former Black Stars midfielder Laryea Kingston has resigned as head coach of Ghana’s National Men’s Under 17 Football Team.

He made the announcement to step down from his role as the lead technical man for The Black Starlets in the aftermath of Ghana’s 2-1 loss to Burkina Faso at the Under 17 WAFU Zone B Championship.

The Championship is taking place at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon to determine representatives from the sub region at the upcoming Africa Under 17 competition.

With the loss, Ghana has been eliminated from contention with Burkina Faso progressing to the finals and earning a spot at the continental event.

Speaking in his post game press conference, Kingston stated that the decision to resign was made before the competition started irrespective of the outcome of the tournament.

“The investment I put in myself (as a coach) [is] all because I want to change something in Ghana football. For me, for these six, seven months, I have given my all, I’ve done my part. As a technical person, as a coach I have done my part.”

“After we came back from Russia (pre WAFU tournament), that’s when I decided that whether we win, we qualify, I’m moving on. So in this case I’m resigning after this tournament as Under 17 Coach. I’ve made that decision already before the tournament started.”
