CAF CONFED CUP: “We had some distractions in lead-up to Zamalek loss” – Ameenu Shardow

The General Manager of Dreams FC Ameenu Shardow has disclosed that numerous distractions plagued the team in the build-up to their semi-final defeat against Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek.

Speaking on CITI TV’s Football Made in Ghana on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, Shardow acknowledged that while some of these distractions were positive, they ultimately took a toll on the players’ mental state.

Despite facing setbacks from certain corporate entities regarding sponsorship, Shardow emphasized that Dreams FC has established a commendable standard in Ghanaian football.

We had alot of distractions heading to the game against Zamalek. Ghanaians were excited about what Dreams were doing in the group stage and so on.

Everyone wanted to get involved with our success story.

People wanted to visit us, want to do some donations and so on.

Everyone was excited, it is positive. Ghanaians were overjoyed about the prospect of we reaching the final of the CAF Confed Cup.

With hindsight, from the Management point of view, we could have structured well so it doesn’t take a toll on the players.

Another problem is that, some authorities and corporate entities did not support us really well especially at the crucial point.

A day before the game, the Stadium was left unkempt and that does not help the team.

It was an honor to have the President of the Ghana Football Association, Mr. Kurt E. S Okraku, as our guest of honor at the dinner. His presence added to the excitement and celebration of our achievements in the CAF Confederation Cup.#StillBelieve☝🏾💚 | #IGWT | #DFC4LIFE pic.twitter.com/hphuUFqF1C
