Nsoatreman Football Club are the new champions of the MTN FA Cup after emerging victorious in a very competitive Bono Derby played out at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.

Maxwell Konadu’s Nsoatreman beat Bofoakwa 5-4 in a penalty shootout after extra time to clinch the title. The game ended 1-1 after regulation time and extra time.

Two games played between the two clubs in the just ended 2023-2024 Ghana Premier League season ended goalless and the same situation panned out after Richard Dzikoe and Sadat Mohammed scored for Bofoakwa and Nsoatreman in the 22nd and 79th minute respectively.

16 year old Forster Apetorgbor, who gained popularity by scoring in Nsoatreman’s remarkable 2-1 win over Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium in the league, scored the winning penalty to book Nsoatreman’s place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup as Ghana’s representative in the tournament.

The pre game events were highlighted by a minute of silence to mourn the passing of former Ghana Premier League players Hans Kwofie and William Essu and Ghana football legend Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu walking on to the pitch with the coveted trophy.
