Black Stars celebrate win over Mali in Bamako

Former Black Stars captain and head coach, C.K. Akonnor, is hopeful about the future of Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team.

His belief comes on the back of Ghana beating Mali 2-1 and Central African Republic 4-3 in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Otto Addo’s first official games as Black Stars head coach.

Akonnor, who stated that he hasn’t retired from coaching, added that he is hopeful about the Black Stars future in an exclusive interview with ChannelOne TV. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

“It looks very very hopeful. Of course, there are things that coach (Otto Addo) made mention of that they have to improve in that area and for a coach, I understand and I think the future is very very hopeful.”

Akonnor served as Black Stars head coach from 2022 to 2021 but was replaced by Milovan Rajevac who led Ghana to the 2021 AFCON but exited at the group stage.

Beating Mali and Central African Republic has moved Ghana to second place in Group I standings and only trail leaders Comoros on goal difference.
